McVitie’s Unveils New Chocolate Rich Tea Biscuits in the UK

McVitie’s UK has announced the launch of its Rich Tea biscuits in a new chocolaty flavor. Labeled as “Rich Tea: The Cocoa One” new biscuits do not contain any chocolate layer like other chocolate biscuits. 

However, they contain more cocoa which gives them a subtle chocolaty taste. Otherwise, they are the same in shape and size as the original ones. 

The good thing is that the new flavor contains no animal products, making them an excellent choice for vegans. Common ingredients include wheat flour, barley malt extract, salt, vegetable oil, and glucose-fructose syrup.

The brand also updated the recipe of its Digestives in 2019 to make them vegan-friendly by removing milk from them. However, people with soy allergy need to be cautious as these biscuits may contain soy. 

Rich teas are popular in the UK. Their key ingredients are almost the same including  wheat flour, sugar, malt extract, and vegetable oil. 

These sweet biscuits were originally developed in England in the 17th century as a light snack for the upper classes. With time, they have become iconic British snacks often enjoyed with tea.

Many popular brands such as Hobnobs and Digestives have also been making these biscuits but McVitie’s Rich Tea is high in demand because of its taste, quality, and variations. 

Their Rich Tea biscuits with a golden brown color are light, crunchy, and sweet. Despite being buttery they contain far less calories compared to other biscuits, making them a healthy snack option. However, the new flavor is thought to be the first ever new Rich Tea flavor. 

McVitie's Biscuits

McVitie’s, a British snack food brand has been making Rich Tea biscuits since 1891. Their biscuits are free from artificial colors and are available at supermarkets across the UK.  The new chocolate flavor is exclusively available at local Tesco stores for £1.80 for a pack, or £1.25 with a Clubcard. They are not yet available online.

McVitie’s latest launch has thrilled the brand’s loyal followers who have taken to social media to express their excitement. In a post on Facebook, Beau Studholme wrote: ‘Best biccy and they’ve brought it out in choccy.’ Similarly, Rachel Rudge said: ‘Ooo imagine these dunked in a cuppa!’

Another added, “These look like heaven.”However, many fans were unsure about the change with Charlotte Morris admitting: ‘I don’t know how to feel.’
