McDonald’s Debuts Vegan Ice Cream in Two Delicious Flavours

1 Min read

McDonald’s has announced the launch of its vegan ice cream called Vegan Scoop in UK. The fast food chain describes the ice cream as “deliciously smooth and creamy,” available in Chocolate and Strawberry flavours, served in a tub costing £1.59.

The ice cream utilizes rice milk along with other ingredients including coconut oil, glucose syrup, dextrose, thickeners, sugar, and flavoring agents.  It means both flavors contain no animal products and have been certified as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.

However, according to McDonald’s, “These products may contain dairy, due to the factory in which they are produced.” So, despite vegan certification, individuals with milk allergies need to be cautious as Vegan Scoop is manufactured in a facility that handles dairy products.

In addition to vegan ice cream, McDonald’s has launched another dessert named “McFreezy”. The dessert made from fruit puree resembles a Calippo ice pop and is available in two flavors_ Mango & Pineapple and Orange. Apart from purees, McFreezy also contain flavouring agents, stabilizers, and citric acid.

It is currently available at 187 locations in the North West as well as the Republic of Ireland. However, only 52 restaurants in areas such as Manchester, Stockport, Bury, Rochdale, Denton, Ardwick, and Ashton-Under-Lyne are offering Vegan Scoop.

Both products are available for trial from June 12 to September 3. If successful, the fast-food chain plans to introduce them nationwide in 2025.

However, the new additions already started receiving positive feedback from customers. One user said, “I tried it today too! Was a total surprise to me when I looked at the menu boards. I tried the chocolate version which just tasted like a cold chocolate mousse but was very tasty.”

Another person added that the vegan ice creams come in tubs. An ice cream machine does not dispense them. So, no need to stress about the looming worry of broken ice cream machines. We’ll call that a win.

It is not the first time that McDonald’s launched vegan products. In 2022, the food chain introduced a vegan chocolate McFlurry and McSundae in Germany. In 2021 McDonald’s introduced the McPlant burger which features a vegan patty, egg-free mayo, and dairy-free cheese.

The food chain also offers vegan-friendly fries which are very popular among dairy-free customers.
